A simple score is offered to the intermediate or advanced contacter, creating a pseudo-combative theatrical dance drawing from the martial arts and aikedo. Efficient and stylized slow motion movements for attack, defense, and rescue are combined with the rolling point of contact to create a fluid, structured, improvised, and playful dance. With practice and partner work experience, dramatic flares can be added and the velocity can be increased to create an epic spontaneous battle dance
Intention- an intention to control the core of another dancer, usually movement toward the midline of a partner using an extremity.
deflection- the use of extremity to alter the course of the Intention (while maintaining flow) so as not to allow contact with ones midline, thus control of ones own center is maintained.
rescue- if control of the parters center is established and causes the partner to lose balance or fall away, the rescue is a grasp or move that brings the partner back into the dance.
take damage- occurs for dramatic flare where instead of deflection, a partners aggro is allowed in and augmented with ones own movements, example- a thrust towards the ribs causes a spinning fall to the ground with subsequent thrashing and defensive posturing.
take down- a core to core connection that suggests a decent to the floor.
locks- using peripheral tension to limit the possible pathways of movement in a partner. sometimes forcing a helical unwinding in order to escape.
separations- when the dance force is harnessed to purposefully and spontaneously create distance between the dancers, giving an opportunity for dramatic posturing
engagements- re-entering the contact using stylized flares and clear intentional movements
